Members of the GGA

You may have noticed in the last newsletter, one of items the GGA board is working on is an idea to help improve the playing conditions of the Grapevine Golf Course…namely, “Adopt a Hole”

The purpose of the Adopt a Hole program is to improve the playing conditions of the golf course by eliciting the help (voluntarily) of GGA members to select (adopt) a particular hole on the golf course and perform the following:

1. Fill divots with sand on tees and fairways…basically everywhere.

2. Repair ball marks…everywhere, but more specifically...the greens, and… the apron in the front of the green where so many shots come up short and make holes in the front of the green, which left without being repaired are obstacles for the next player who comes up just short of the green on an approach shot.

3.  Pick up tees...broken and otherwise on the tees, especially on the 3 par holes.

4 Adhere to recently revised golf course policy to only allow 2 carts per threesome or foursome and 3 carts per fivesome.  The golf course has seen tremendous increase in play over the last eight months which has increased cart traffic dramatically especially with many players riding as singles due to Covid-19 concerns. This increased cart traffic has caused a compaction concern for fairways and rough areas.  The return to 2 players to a cart policy along with using carts paths more, will help reduce compaction concerns.

5.  During play, use cart paths as required, especially around tees and greens...as normal.

The initial plan is as follows:

A GGA member calls the golf shop first (to get a sense of how busy it is that day) indicating they would like to come out, check out a cart (no charge) and go out to their “adopted hole” to perform the maintenance tasks mentioned above.  Note; the best time of day to do this is very early morning or late afternoon.

Some ground rules:

No more than 3 - 5 GGA members per day so as to limit the usage of carts for those actually playing that day.

No playing golf, practicing or otherwise while performing the tasks, otherwise we may lose this opportunity to help improve playing conditions.

Final comment:

In practice we should all be doing these things while we are playing a round of golf but in the spirit of pace of play (quickly) and a tournament focused mind set (play your competitive best) we felt it would be better to create a formalized program.

Implementation:

Send an email to joeallen@swbell.net indicating which hole you would like to “adopt” and go volunteer.

Thanks for your participation.
